[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 23rd that it will hold the 7th Green Round Table under the theme of 'Green New Deal Policy Directions in the Post-COVID-19 Era' at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul on the 24th.
The Green Round Table is a forum launched in 2016 under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss ways to form networks, collaborate, and create synergies among the government, international organizations, academia, and businesses in the fields of climate environment and green economy. It has been held six times to date.
This Green Round Table will invite about 120 domestic and international figures from the diplomatic corps in Korea, related ministries, academia, and international organizations. It consists of two sessions aimed at raising awareness of the importance of the Green New Deal as a policy for economic recovery in the post-COVID-19 era and for responding to future climate change and environmental crises, and exploring directions for the success of the Korean-style Green New Deal.
The event will feature a welcome speech by Minister Kang Kyung-wha, congratulatory remarks by Ban Ki-moon, Chair of the GGGI General Assembly and Board of Directors, Kim Jung-wook, Chair of the Green Growth Committee's private sector, and Kim Sung-hwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea. Promotion of the 2nd P4G Summit, scheduled to be held in Korea next year, will also be conducted concurrently.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the Green Round Table event, a celebration will be held to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), a green international organization based in Korea.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "Through this event, we aim to seek the linkage between efforts to respond to climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the Green New Deal policy, using it as an opportunity to lead international discussions. In cooperation with related ministries, we will continuously promote the 'Green New Deal' policy, which our government is prioritizing."
