[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the 23rd, whistleblower A, who revealed allegations that former YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk covered up a drug investigation involving his artist B.I, appeared before the prosecution.
The Violent Crimes Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Ho-sam) summoned A at around 10:20 a.m. and is currently investigating him. A is a victim who was threatened by former CEO Yang to retract his drug-related statements in order to cover up the investigation concerning B.I.
The prosecution is reportedly questioning A about the circumstances under which he facilitated B.I's drug use and the conversations he had with former CEO Yang prior to the investigation.
B.I is suspected of purchasing marijuana and other drugs between April and May 2016 through his acquaintance and whistleblower A, and using some of them.
Earlier, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Unit forwarded the case to the prosecution on April 27 with recommendations to indict B.I on drug use charges and former CEO Yang on charges of intimidation.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, which received the case, began its investigation on the 11th of last month. After completing the investigation of A, the prosecution plans to summon former CEO Yang and YG staff members for questioning.
