[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on the 19th (local time) that the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) worldwide reached a record high the previous day.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, stated during a virtual press briefing held at the WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, "On the 18th alone, more than 150,000 COVID-19 cases were reported globally."
Director-General Ghebreyesus said, "About half of the infections were reported in the Americas region," adding, "Many cases were also reported in South Asia and the Middle East."
He also said, "The world is at a new and dangerous stage," urging people to follow personal hygiene guidelines such as social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands thoroughly.
