Suncheon Public Sports Club Selected for Korea Sports Council Public Project Competition

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon Public Sports Club was selected in the ‘2020 Sports Club Development Support Project 2nd Public Contest’ announced by the Korea Sports Council on the 17th for the ‘New Professional Athlete Training Division’ and the ‘Support Division for Establishing Sports Clubs from Disbanded School Sports Teams,’ receiving 25 million KRW each for the respective categories.

The four selected sports?soccer, Taekkyeon, badminton, and table tennis?will be supported as professional athlete teams participating in events such as the Youth Sports Festival and the National Sports Festival. Additionally, hobby classes for each sport will be operated to lay the foundation for expanding the base of these sports.

In particular, the Maesan Middle School soccer team was selected for the disbanded sports team support project and was established as Suncheon FC (U-15), beginning activities under the Suncheon Public Sports Club. This has enabled the establishment of a development system for Suncheon soccer that connects Jungang Elementary School, Suncheon FC (U-15), and Suncheon High School.

Suncheon Public Sports Club is a community-based public sports club that provides professional and high-quality lessons at affordable costs to citizens of various ages and classes, centered around local sports facilities, making sports easily accessible to everyone.

Yang Seon-gil, Director of Sports Promotion at Suncheon City, stated, “We will join forces to make the local sports club a place where men and women of all ages can enjoy sports activities, and furthermore, a place for community exchange. We aim to nurture sports talents among club members who develop their skills and advance to become national team athletes.”

From 2021, continuous support will be determined annually through project operation evaluations, allowing the club to receive 50 million KRW per year for each sport to operate.
