KOICA Shares South Korea's COVID-19 Response Experience with Developing Countries... Facebook Live Broadcast

45th Development Cooperation Forum Held on 25th via KOICA Facebook Live
Discussion on Analysis of Korea's COVID-19 Response System and Sharing Experiences through Development Cooperation

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) will hold the 45th Development Cooperation Forum on the 25th under the theme "Analysis of COVID-19 Response System and Its Application to Development Cooperation Projects." The forum will be broadcast live on KOICA's official Facebook page.

This forum provides a platform to systematically analyze South Korea's response measures since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and discuss ways to apply these measures to development cooperation and share them with developing countries.

South Korea is recognized as a model case for its COVID-19 response, as it did not implement authoritarian forced measures such as regional lockdowns but faithfully adhered to the international norms and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) on infectious disease response, as well as principles of human rights and democracy.

KOICA organized this forum to systematically analyze South Korea's COVID-19 response experience and explore ways to utilize it in the international community, especially for developing countries' COVID-19 responses.

The forum will take a detailed look at South Korea's COVID-19 response system from four perspectives: △democracy △health policy △crisis management response △use of information and communication technology (ICT), and discuss how these can be applied to improve infectious disease response systems in developing countries.

Starting with an opening address by KOICA President Im Kyung-kyung, the forum will consist of five sessions. The first session, titled "COVID-19 and Democratic Governance ? South Korea's Experience and International Development Cooperation," will feature Professor Lee Sung-hoon from Kyung Hee University Future Destiny Institute analyzing the COVID-19 response system from a democracy perspective.

The second session will be led by Professor Yoon Sang-chul from Yonsei University College of Medicine's Department of Humanities and Social Medicine, who will analyze the use of ICT in South Korea's COVID-19 response and its outcomes, covering tracking, isolation, suppression of spread, patient and medical resource management, testing, and diagnostic capabilities.

The third session, titled "COVID-19: South Korea's Health Care System Response," will be presented by Professor Tak Sang-woo from Seoul National University Institute of Health and Environment, examining the central governance and community response systems in South Korea's infectious disease crisis response.

The fourth session, led by Professor Son Ae-ri from Samyook University Department of Health Management, will analyze health communication overall under the theme "COVID-19: South Korea's Case and Experience from the Perspective of Risk Communication," including crisis communication systems, crisis communication principles according to infectious disease crisis stages, and rumor response and management.

The final session will be presented by Professor Lee Yoon-hyun from Namseoul University Department of Health Administration, titled "Analysis of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response Systems in Partner Countries," discussing the current infectious disease response systems in developing countries, ways to strengthen links with existing KOICA projects, and plans to establish cooperation systems.

Following the presentations, a discussion will be chaired by Park Jae-shin, Director of KOICA Business Strategy and Asia Headquarters, with five presenters, Kim Hyun-won, Head of KOICA Business Strategy Planning Team, and Kim Shin-woo, Professor of Infectious Diseases at Kyungpook National University, discussing the applicability of South Korea's COVID-19 response experience to developing countries.

Marking its 45th session, this Development Cooperation Forum will be held as a real-time webinar to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It can be watched live from 2 p.m. on the 25th via KOICA's official Facebook page.

Questions about the forum content can be submitted through the real-time audience response system "SimpleFlow," and among live viewers who leave comments on Facebook on the day, a drawing will be held to give out small gifts. Detailed information can be found on the KOICA website event notice.
