Yongsan-gu to Recruit 900 Participants for COVID-19 Overcome Hope Jobs Program

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Changhyun) is recruiting 900 participants for the ‘COVID-19 Overcome Hope Job Project.’

This is to reduce the employment shock caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and revitalize the stagnant local economy.

A budget of 6 billion KRW has been invested, significantly expanding the existing second half public work project.

The participation criteria for the public work project have been relaxed from the previous low-income vulnerable groups to residents temporarily in need of livelihood support.

Applicants must be Yongsan-gu residents aged 18 or older with the ability to work as of the project start date. Priority will be given to those needing livelihood support due to the local economic downturn, those unemployed or on leave/closed due to COVID-19, and youth aged 39 or younger.

The working period is about five months, from July 20 to December 20. The principle is 3 to 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, with the minimum hourly wage applied.

Participants will be assigned to ▲support for daily quarantine ▲support for recovery of alley markets and small business owners ▲improvement of public rest areas ▲improvement of cultural and artistic environments ▲emergency public work support ▲disaster prevention, among others.

In particular, an additional 229 personnel will be assigned to schools and daycare centers vulnerable to COVID-19 for quarantine, cleaning, student safety guidance, and assistance with care and meals, supporting additional tasks caused by COVID-19.

Residents wishing to participate should bring identification and other supporting documents and visit their local community service center by the 30th for application.

The final selected candidates will be announced on July 15. Detailed information can be found on the Yongsan-gu Office website.

The district will prioritize the applicants’ desired projects but will comprehensively consider specialties and health conditions for placement if there is no desired project or if there is concentration in specific projects.

Meanwhile, the district plans to provide public jobs to 1,030 people in the first and second halves of this year. This is more than four times the number from last year (229), actively responding to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19.

Seong Changhyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We have greatly expanded public jobs for small business owners and vulnerable groups struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “We will do our best to restore residents’ daily lives through prompt and appropriate support.”
