Geumhwan Eclipse Visible in Central Africa, Asia, and Pacific
Partial Eclipse Observed in Middle East, South Asia, and East Africa
Only Partial Eclipse Can Be Seen in Korea
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has previewed what the annular solar eclipse to be observed on the 21st will look like.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the sun and moon overlap, but the moon does not completely cover the sun, creating a ring-shaped eclipse.
This eclipse will appear as an annular eclipse in regions stretching from the Arabian Peninsula and northern India, through China and Taiwan, to the Pacific Ocean.
The video released by NASA was filmed during the annular eclipse in Western Australia in 2013.
NASA explained the video, saying, "In the early morning of May 10, 2013, the moon was between the Earth and the rising sun," adding, "(In the video) the moon was too far from Earth to completely block the sun, but left a ring of fire as sunlight poured around the edge of the moon."
They further stated, "This video was barely captured through the high refraction of Earth's atmosphere just above the horizon."
NASA announced that the annular solar eclipse can be observed this weekend in central Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Asia, and the Pacific region.
They also stated that a partial solar eclipse will be visible in the Middle East, South Asia, and East Africa.
NASA explained, "It will be difficult to see the eclipse in Europe, but it can be viewed online."
Meanwhile, in South Korea, only a partial solar eclipse covering 55.5% of the sun can be observed. The eclipse will begin around 3:54 PM, based on Chungju, as the moon covers the lower part of the sun.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the sun is completely covered by the moon, and a partial solar eclipse occurs when only part of the sun is covered. The maximum eclipse will be at 5:03 PM, and the eclipse will end around 6:05 PM.
If you miss this eclipse, you will have to wait 10 years until June 1, 2030, to observe the next solar eclipse.
