"Gochang Middle and Girls' Middle Schools to Become Coeducational Next Year"... Gochang Office of Education Changes Admission Method

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Geon-ju] Jeonbuk Gochang Office of Education announced on the 16th that it has confirmed the conversion of middle schools in the eup area to coeducation starting next year, and has issued an administrative notice to change the middle school admission method to prevent gender imbalance and ensure fair school allocation.

According to the Gochang Office of Education, Gochang Middle School and Gochang Girls' Middle School will be integrated as the admission method changes from the 'middle school district' assigned by the superintendent considering commuting distance and transportation conditions to the 'school district' where admission is determined by regional lottery.

The lottery method will be decided later after collecting parents' opinions through the Middle School Admission Lottery Management Committee.

Individuals or organizations with opinions on the administrative notice regarding the change in middle school admission method can submit their opinions by fax or mail during the administrative notice period until the 7th of next month.

Meanwhile, the Gochang Office of Education will invest about 2.9 billion won to equip essential facilities such as restrooms and changing rooms, as well as learning support facilities necessary for the transition to coeducation.

Accordingly, each school plans to form a promotion team to proceed with revising school regulations, changing school names, school songs, school symbols, and school uniforms.

In particular, since changing the school name is inevitable for Gochang Girls' Middle School, the process of changing the school name is currently underway, attracting local residents' attention to the new school name.

A representative of the Gochang Office of Education said, “We will do our best to support various administrative procedures promoted by the target schools and to expand related facilities so that students entering schools converted to coeducation in the 2021 academic year do not experience any inconvenience in school life.”
