National Intangible Heritage Center Hosts 'Hanbando Muhyung Nuri' Performance Wishing for Peace on the Korean Peninsula
The National Intangible Heritage Center will hold a performance titled "Hanbando Muhyeong Nuri" at 7:30 PM on the 24th in the Grand Performance Hall, wishing for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
This stage is prepared to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War. Under the theme "A Korean Peninsula Community United by Intangible Heritage," it introduces traditional arts from both South and North Korea. The performance includes Bukcheong Lion Play (National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 15) performed during the first full moon of the lunar year in Bukcheong County, Hamgyeongnam-do; Seodo Sori folk songs (National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 29) passed down from Hwanghae-do and Pyeongan-do; Kim Baekbong Fan Dance (Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Five Northern Provinces No. 3); North Korean intangible heritage folk boat songs; and traditional Korean dances such as Jaenggang Dance and Janggo Dance from the basic repertoire of Korean ethnic dances.
Performers who are holders of National Intangible Cultural Heritage and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Five Northern Provinces, as well as defected artists, unite in wishing for peace on the Korean Peninsula. The stage features master singer Yu Ji-sook (Seodo Sori), the Bukcheong Lion Play Preservation Society, the Kim Baekbong Fan Dance Preservation Society, Lee Young-hoon playing Jangsaenap (a North Korean modified instrument), Park Sung-jin playing Sohaegeum (a North Korean national treasure), Choi Se-in, former dance director of the Hamgyeongbuk-do Art Troupe, and Kim Cheol-ung, the youngest principal pianist of the Pyongyang National Symphony Orchestra. Officials stated, "Visitors must comply with measures such as registration, hand sanitization, and social distancing upon entry to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
