[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Electronics has embarked on nurturing experts proficient in artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to drive digital transformation in the manufacturing sector.
On the 15th, LG Electronics held a graduation ceremony for the 'Manufacturing AI Leader Course' at the Natural Science Campus of Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, the company announced on the 16th. About 20 employees selected as AI leaders attended the ceremony, along with Kim Byungyeol, Executive Vice President and Head of the Manufacturing Innovation Center at LG Electronics' Production Technology Institute, Professor Lee Jihyung, Dean of the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence at Sungkyunkwan University, and Lee Junghwan, Vice Director of the Talent Development Institute.
LG Electronics has been operating this course in collaboration with Sungkyunkwan University since last year. This year, the program ran for three months starting in April. Participants in the course received core theoretical education on AI and big data from professors in the Department of Software and the Department of Systems Management Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University and completed problem-solving assignments using real-world data.
LG Electronics, led by the Production Technology Institute, developed this course based on the judgment that capabilities related to AI and big data are essential for digital transformation and smart factory construction in manufacturing. In addition to the Manufacturing AI Leader Course, LG Electronics operates customized training programs in data analysis, machine learning, deep learning, equipment intelligence, and smart factory solutions.
Hong Sungguk, President of LG Electronics' Production Technology Institute, said, "In a business environment where it is difficult to foresee even a step ahead, rapid digital transformation in manufacturing is essential," adding, "We will continue to nurture outstanding talent to lead manufacturing innovation."
