Navy Officer Arrested and Investigated for Forcing Production of Sexual Exploitation Material... Refuses to Testify

Suspect Detained by Military Police on the 11th
Exercising Right to Remain Silent

[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] It has been confirmed that an active-duty Navy junior officer is under arrest and investigation on charges of producing so-called 'sexual exploitation videos,' a type of digital sexual crime.

According to military authorities on the 14th, Captain A, who serves at a Navy unit in Changwon, was arrested by the military police on the 11th on charges of producing and possessing obscene materials.

Captain A is accused of forcing a female victim, whom he met through a one-on-one chat app, to produce obscene materials and then storing them on his personal mobile phone and other devices.

The case involving Captain A was transferred to the military police after civilian police, investigating reports related to sexual exploitation materials, detected the charges. However, it is known that he is currently exercising his right to remain silent.

The military police are investigating Captain A for additional offenses and possible accomplices, as well as whether distribution or monetary transactions occurred beyond simple production and possession of sexual exploitation materials.
