80% Satisfaction with Yeongdeungpo-gu Administration in the 7th Elected Term... Satisfaction Up 22.6% Compared to Previous Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) conducted a satisfaction survey on the 2020 administration and found that about 80% of respondents answered that they were 'satisfied,' an increase of 22.6 percentage points compared to the previous year.

To mark the turning point of the 7th elected term, the district conducted a perception survey in May targeting 500 residents aged 19 and older to evaluate the past administration and comprehensively collect and reflect residents' opinions on future priority projects.

When asked, "How satisfied are you with the 7th elected term Yeongdeungpo-gu administration?" about 80% of respondents answered "satisfied." The reasons for satisfaction were ▲because results are showing (39.4%) ▲because of efforts to communicate with residents (25.3%) ▲because of the increase in new and innovative policies (21.4%), indicating residents' trust in the administration and expectations for change.

Satisfaction with policies in five major areas averaged 85%. The "Pleasant Residential Safety City" sector had the highest satisfaction at 88.7%, followed by the "Education City Where Dreams Come True" sector at 86.0%.

This can be seen as a result of District Mayor Chae Hyun-il's emphasis on the three basic administrative areas of cleaning, parking, and pedestrian environment, as well as efforts to create a premium educational environment. The district fulfilled a 50-year wish of residents by renovating the Yeongjung-ro pedestrian street in front of Yeongdeungpo Station, a representative case of creating an "open" pedestrian environment, and satisfaction with this among the seven core projects promoted over the past two years was the highest at 71.5%.

Next, "Redevelopment of Shantytowns and Red-Light Districts" (38.4%) and "Demolition of Yeongdeungpo Rotary Overpass" (36.8%) also showed high satisfaction among residents.

Additionally, the district transformed the alleys into bright and safe environments by renovating caf?-style general restaurants in the Dangsan-dong area and creating the "Dangsan-gol Cultural Street," with this swift administration becoming a driving force for residents to feel the changes.

Among the achievements in the "Education City Where Dreams Come True" sector, the safe school routes steadily promoted over the past two years stand out. The district has worked hard to create safe school routes for children and parents by implementing car-free streets, colored pedestrian paths, and LED floor traffic lights.

Efforts have also been made to build libraries, which serve as centers of education and culture in the local community, by establishing village libraries in all 18 neighborhoods. The high expectations of residents for large-scale libraries currently under construction, such as the large library on the former MBC site and the Singil specialized library, which will serve as complex cultural spaces, are also reflected in this survey result.

Regarding the biggest issue in the first half of 2020, the ongoing COVID-19 response, 90.3% of residents answered that they were "satisfied." Satisfaction was high in the following order: ▲sending safety text messages about confirmed patients' movement routes (32.6%) ▲providing prevention kits including masks to vulnerable groups (22.6%) ▲prompt disclosure of confirmed cases and movement routes (21.1%).

Mayor Chae said, "As a result of continuously communicating with residents and promoting policies from the residents' perspective, overall administrative satisfaction has increased," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that residents can feel the effects of the projects currently underway."
