[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Former Vice President Joe Biden, who secured the Democratic Party's presidential nomination for the upcoming U.S. presidential election in November, stated on the 6th (local time) that he will "fight to win the votes of Americans by November 3," referring to the protests sparked by the death of Black man George Floyd, emphasizing the need to create change.

According to CNN and other outlets, Biden expressed in a statement that he is honored to be confirmed as the Democratic candidate and said, "We will rebuild the economy so that everyone moves forward together."

Biden highlighted the protests triggered by George Floyd's death and urged participation. He said, "About three months ago, I stood on the stage in South Carolina and said our campaign is for all those who have been knocked down, left behind, and marginalized," adding, "These words resonate even more now as many Americans are hurt and suffering great losses."

He continued, "Many have felt powerless due to the public health and economic crises," and pointed out, "Many people have felt unfairly treated and less valued by society for far too long." He then called once again on all marginalized Americans to join the campaign, saying, "This movement will not only defeat U.S. President Donald Trump but also transform our country."

Earlier, the Associated Press reported that Biden secured more than 1,991 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination based on the results of the Democratic primaries held in Washington D.C. and seven states. CNN also announced its own tally showing Biden had secured 1,992 delegates. The Democratic Party has a total of 3,979 delegates nationwide, and a majority of 1,991 delegates is required to be confirmed as the presidential nominee.

The official nomination of the presidential candidate will take place at the party convention held in mid-August after the state primaries are completed.
