[Breaking] Starting Tomorrow, 1.35 Million Elementary and Middle School Students Return to School... School Attendance Ends After 99 Days

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Students who were unable to attend school as part of the preventive measures against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will all return to school starting tomorrow.

According to the plan announced by the Ministry of Education, about 1.35 million students, including first-year middle school students and fifth- to sixth-grade elementary school students, will attend school for the first time this year starting on the 8th. This follows the attendance schedule of high school seniors on the 20th of last month, high school juniors, third-year middle school students, first- to second-grade elementary students, and kindergarteners on the 27th, and high school freshmen, second-year middle school students, and third- to fourth-grade elementary students on the 3rd of this month.

As a result, approximately 5.95 million students nationwide will all attend school and take classes. Previously, the Ministry of Education postponed the start date of in-person classes at schools nationwide from March 2 to March 9, March 23, and April 6 due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 confirmed cases are still occurring in localized and cluster forms, and many parents remain concerned about school attendance, so the controversy is expected to persist.
