Movie Theater Attendance Surpasses 150,000 in 98 Days

'Intruder' mobilizes 100,849 people... Yeongjinwi provides 6,000 won discount coupons

Movie Theater Attendance Surpasses 150,000 in 98 Days Movie 'Chimipja' Still Cut

The number of daily movie theater visitors exceeded 150,000 for the first time in ninety-two days.

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 7th, the number of visitors to movie theaters the previous day was 165,755. This is the first time since February 29, when 156,107 visitors were recorded, that more than 150,000 people gathered. Although it is not yet comparable to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, it has laid a stepping stone toward normalization.

This result is due to the release of Korean commercial films and the exceptional support from the Korea Film Council. The movie that attracted the most viewers that day was "Chimipja" (The Intruder), starring Song Ji-hyo and Kim Mu-yeol. It secured 48.7% of all seats (964,469 seats) and drew 100,849 viewers. It is the first time in 111 days since February 16, when "Honest Candidate" attracted 262,662 viewers, that a box office leader has drawn over 100,000 viewers. The seat occupancy rate (10.5%) also exceeded 10%. Since its release on the 4th, it has accumulated 199,701 viewers over three days.

The background of this success includes the Korea Film Council's aggressive support. Since the 4th, they have been providing 6,000 won discount coupons to reduce the financial burden on viewers. This benefit is available over three weeks on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It can be used not only at multiplexes like CGV but also at theaters dedicated to art films.

Under this bold support, "The Greatest Showman" attracted the second-highest number of viewers with 18,975. Following were "Underwater" (9,235), "Prison Escape" (7,100), "Mad Max: Fury Road" (3,807), "Cafe Belle Epoque" (2,993), and "French Woman" (2,850).
