[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Five-star luxury hotels have appeared on TV home shopping, ushering in an era of cost-effective travel. Resort packages for summer vacations, designed to soothe the frustrations of the first half of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have also returned in abundance.

According to the home shopping industry on the 6th, GS Shop, the first to launch, sold the 'InterContinental Seoul COEX Hotel Package' at 6:20 PM on the 24th of last month. Including about 6,500 pre-orders from mobile and internet malls, the total number of orders reached approximately 18,000. In terms of order amount, it was worth 2.4 billion KRW. The achievement rate compared to the broadcast target reached 300%. GS Shop began planning hotel package products in March. Due to the impact of COVID-19, they collaborated with InterContinental Hotel, which is optimized for staycations with rooms and facilities, to offer room and breakfast packages.

On the 22nd of last month, Lotte Home Shopping also reflected travel preferences favoring 'short-distance', 'nearby', and 'domestic travel' over overseas trips by broadcasting and selling L7 Hotel accommodation vouchers. The 80-minute broadcast, which started at 11:50 PM, sold out in just 52 minutes, achieving 7,700 orders and 600 million KRW in sales. This is 250% of the original target. It was explained that this was planned together with Lotte Hotel since April to meet customers' needs for premium accommodations.

Jeju Island products also appeared. The Jeju Lotte Hotel accommodation vouchers sold by Hyundai Home Shopping on the 24th of last month sold out for both 1-night and 2-night packages. Despite being a late-night broadcast starting at 10:45 PM, the total number of orders was about 5,200, with sales amounting to 2.4 billion KRW. This exceeded the original target by more than 41%.

Due to this popularity, home shopping sales are expected to continue. GS Shop will exclusively sell 'Kumho Resort Accommodation Vouchers (2 nights)' located in Jeju Island, Seorak, and Tongyeong starting at 6:20 PM on the 7th. When purchasing the accommodation voucher, customers can choose one of the three locations, and the validity period is until December 30th of this year. There are two types of vouchers: a consecutive stay voucher allowing 2 nights at one destination, and a split voucher that can be used for 1 night each at different destinations. The vouchers can be used on weekdays (Sunday to Friday) and are provided for 4 adults per room. Two breakfast tickets and two sauna tickets are also included. For weekend use, an additional 30,000 KRW must be paid on-site.

Hyundai Home Shopping will also sell the 'Yongpyong Resort Summer Dream Premium Limited Package' sets for 2, 3, and 4 people during a TV home shopping broadcast starting at 8:50 AM on the 7th. The package includes weekday room use vouchers, breakfast buffet vouchers, water park tickets, and combines various outdoor leisure products such as luge, mountain coaster, and four-wheel ATV rides. The validity period is until September 30th.

A home shopping industry official said, "In response to the recent COVID-19 situation, we planned and prepared products reflecting travel preferences favoring 'short-distance', 'nearby', and 'domestic travel' over overseas trips," adding, "We will continue to introduce various related products in the future."
