[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 5th, Goyang-seok, Chairman of the Gwangjin-gu Council, congratulated and encouraged the graduates through a video congratulatory message at the graduation ceremony of the Mongolian School in Korea.

In a situation where face-to-face events became difficult due to COVID-19, this event was held online and broadcast live through the official YouTube channel of the Mongolian School in Korea, with only 20 high school graduates attending.

The Mongolian School in Korea, located in Gwangjang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, is the only Mongolian school outside Mongolia officially recognized by the Mongolian Ministry of Education worldwide, and especially being located in Gwangjin-gu, it has attracted much interest at the council level.

In particular, the Mongolian School in Korea serves the children of Mongolian migrant workers, who rank third in number among foreigners in the district after Chinese and Vietnamese. About 300 Mongolian students are enrolled from 1st grade elementary to 3rd grade high school. Since its establishment in 1999, this year marks its 21st anniversary, with a total of 77 students (29 elementary, 28 middle, and 20 high school students) graduating this year.

Chairman Goyang-seok expressed his pleasure at being able to convey congratulatory greetings through video at the online graduation ceremony newly attempted due to COVID-19, saying, “Learning the cultures of both Korea and Mongolia can sometimes be confusing, but these experiences will serve as a stepping stone for you to grow into global talents.” He added, “Based on the diverse learning at the Mongolian School in Korea located in Gwangjin-gu, I hope you grow into the next-generation leaders who will lead changes not only in Mongolia and Korea but also in the world.”
