[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yu Deok-yeol, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, held a “Meeting with Heads of Veterans Organizations in Dongdaemun-gu” to encourage local veterans organization leaders who are working hard for the development of the country and local community in June, the Month of National Defense and Veterans.
The meeting, held on the morning of the 5th in the Planning Situation Room on the 5th floor of the district office, was attended by Yu Deok-yeol, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, along with representatives from nine local veterans organizations.
Mayor Yu listened to the difficulties faced by the attendees during their veterans activities and collected opinions to improve these issues. He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the organization leaders who are dedicating themselves to the development of the country and local community.
In addition, Dongdaemun-gu provides various supports in many fields so that veterans can lead better lives. A veterans’ honor allowance of 30,000 KRW is paid monthly to national merit recipients, and a holiday consolation payment of 30,000 KRW is given during Lunar New Year and Chuseok. Both the veterans’ honor allowance and the holiday consolation payment have been increased by 10,000 KRW compared to last year.
Furthermore, Dongdaemun-gu will invest a total of approximately 1.689 billion KRW this year, an increase of about 420 million KRW from last year, to improve the welfare of national merit recipients and their families.
The district plans to continue raising the level of respect and support for national merit recipients residing in the area through various policy supports.
Yu Deok-yeol, mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We will actively reflect the suggestions discussed at the meeting when implementing policies,” and added, “We will continue to spare no effort in providing various supports so that national merit recipients and veterans who have made noble sacrifices for the country can be more respected and enjoy a comfortable life.”
Currently, Dongdaemun-gu operates branches of nine organizations: the Liberation Association, the Disabled Veterans Association, the Bereaved Families of War Veterans Association, the Widows of War Veterans Association, the Meritorious Service Association, the Agent Orange Veterans Association, the Special Mission Meritorious Persons Association, the Korean War Veterans Association, and the Vietnam War Veterans Association.
