[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Shigeru Yokota (橫田滋, 87), the father of abducted Japanese citizen Megumi Yokota, has passed away, NHK Japan reported on the 5th.
Megumi Yokota was a woman abducted by North Korean agents in 1977 at the age of 13 in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. North Korea announced that Megumi made an extreme choice in 1994 and returned remains in 2004, but the identification results confirmed they belonged to another person.
Since then, the Japanese government and the bereaved family, including Shigeru Yokota, have continuously demanded her return on the premise that Megumi is still alive.
