[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Kim Su-young, Mayor of Yangcheon District (photo), welcomed the acquittal of former Yangcheon District Mayor Lee Je-hak.
Mayor Kim stated on the day the court acquitted his spouse, former Mayor Lee Je-hak, who was indicted and detained on charges of bribery, saying, "The wise judgment of the court has resolved my spouse's grievances," and added, "With this ruling as a turning point, all baseless suspicions against my spouse have been cleared."
In particular, he urged the 'Committee for the People's Livelihood Measures,' which had accused former Mayor Lee Je-hak, to stop making baseless allegations following this acquittal and to reflect once again on the original role of the organization.
He also expressed deep apologies to the residents of Yangcheon District for the concern caused by the indictment and detention of his spouse, pledging, "I sincerely apologize to the residents and will strictly and thoroughly monitor not only myself but also those around me to ensure that such concerns are never caused again."
Furthermore, Mayor Kim stated, "As this is a time when local governments are making every effort to respond swiftly to the national disaster crisis, including measures against the novel coronavirus, I will focus on district administration without wasting administrative resources on unnecessary disputes," and added, "As a representative of local government and a member of the Presidential Committee on Jobs, I will take the lead in job policies for the post-COVID era and actively support the government's New Deal policy."
