[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) is producing a Saessak Note that includes understanding of North Korean society, the necessity of unification, and the changed status of the Republic of Korea after unification, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
According to Nam-gu on the 5th, 1,000 copies of the Unification Saessak Note, containing the current status of North Korea, daily life, play culture, the process of division between North and South, and stories of unification, are scheduled to be published within this month.
The contents of the Saessak Note were reviewed by North Korean residents living in Gwangju to clarify factual accuracy, and it is produced at a level easily understood by elementary and middle school students.
The booklet is 40 pages in A4 size and includes photos of actual North Korean residents and illustrated images to help easily understand North Korean society and unification issues.
Additionally, the back part of the Unification Saessak Note is expected to provide space for readers to list their thoughts on unification and take notes after reading the book.
The Unification Saessak Note will be finalized and published by the end of this month, and the note will be used as material for the 'Visiting Peaceful Unification Class' program, which will be conducted by the district office for elementary and middle school students and their parents in the district.
A Nam-gu official said, "The Unification Saessak Note aims to help our children, who will lead the unification era, develop a future-oriented view of unification based on the principles of reconciliation, peace, coexistence, independence, peace, and democracy on the Korean Peninsula," and added, "We hope it will contribute to spreading consensus on unification issues."
