[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan's first literary museum, the Oh Young-su Literary Museum, will hold the 'Special Art Lecture by Members of the National Academy of Arts of Korea' for the first time.
The Oh Young-su Literary Museum announced on the 5th that it will invite Professor Jeon Sang-guk, an honorary professor at Kangwon National University and a member of the National Academy of Arts of Korea, to give a humanities special lecture at Nangye Hall on the 2nd floor from 2 p.m. on the 10th.
This lecture, jointly prepared by the National Academy of Arts of Korea and the Oh Young-su Literary Museum, is meaningful as it is the first event of its kind held in Ulsan.
Professor Jeon will speak on the theme "Why Write - The Joy and Essence of Writing," divided into topics such as why we write, the joy of imagination, what to write about, the roots of my novel, and the evil spirit of war, sharing the joy of writing he has learned over more than 50 years since his literary debut in 1963.
Professor Jeon said, "Ultimately, my joy of writing novels began with the historical awareness that we are all victims of war," adding, "What is joyful is being deeply immersed in something and at the same time being liberated from something."
He added, "Anyone with a rich imagination, the power to vividly show ideas as if they can be seen or heard in real situations, is a writer."
Professor Jeon, who has devoted his life to cultivating the Kim Yu-jeong Literary Village in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, was born in 1940 in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, and debuted in the literary world in 1963 when his novel "Companion" won the Chosun Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest.
He is active as a writer, a member of the National Academy of Arts of Korea, an honorary professor at Kangwon National University, and honorary chairman of the Kim Yu-jeong Memorial Association.
The National Academy of Arts of Korea has held the 'Special Art Lecture by Members of the National Academy of Arts of Korea' annually since 1982 to help local residents' interest and understanding of the arts and to promote the development of regional arts. This is the first lecture held in Ulsan.
The Oh Young-su Literary Museum will accept advance applications for up to 50 people on a first-come, first-served basis while observing "social distancing in daily life" to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
