[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation announced on the 5th that it held the '2020 1st On-Campus Integrated Technology Commercialization Briefing+' on the 4th at the Entrepreneurship Education Room in the Inseong Hall of the university.
This briefing was prepared for undergraduate (department) professors and industry-academic cooperation key professors to expand the base of university inventions, discover future promising technologies, and seek ways to revitalize university business-type technology management.
Hosted by Pyun Yangbeom, head of Gwangju University Technology Commercialization Center, the event included a keynote presentation by Professor Lee Myungbok on the status of intellectual property rights and technology transfer at Gwangju University, and the operational direction of intellectual property rights dissemination support projects, followed by an explanation and Q&A session on the plan to establish a subsidiary of Gwangju United Technology Holding Company.
In particular, Gwangju University plans to actively promote the establishment of a subsidiary of Gwangju United Technology Holding Company to foster linked growth with local companies through the revitalization of business-type technology management and to generate revenue.
Accordingly, the university intends to devote full efforts to discovering AI-related technologies and companies related to the recently spotlighted fields of health and bio, optics, electronics, energy, automotive, and smart cities.
Gwangju University will also encourage securing rights for excellent technologies among university staff, students, and family companies, and will promote projects supporting domestic and international patent application costs for universities and industries.
The scope of the support project includes patents (inventions), utility models (designs), and design applications, and it will be operated by the Gwangju University Technology Commercialization Center until November.
Pyun Yangbeom, head of the Technology Commercialization Center, said, “If the activation of intellectual property rights applications, discovery of promising technologies reflecting market demand, and establishment of subsidiaries of the United Technology Holding Company proceed smoothly, it will greatly help not only the revitalization of industry-academic cooperation but also students’ employment.”
Meanwhile, Gwangju University plans to hold a second integrated briefing session in September for family companies linked with the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and students interested in intellectual property rights.
