According to the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education on the 5th, all 160 people, including family members who had close contact with the second-year student at Sangwon Middle School who was confirmed positive the previous day, tested negative for COVID-19. The close contacts include family members as well as students and instructors from two math academies attended by the confirmed student.
The confirmed student showed symptoms of fever and phlegm starting from the 2nd, the day before the third phase of in-person classes for elementary, middle, and high schools, and was tested, resulting in a positive diagnosis on the morning of the 4th. The student did not attend school on the first and second days of in-person classes, the 3rd and 4th, after receiving a 'stay home' notice through self-diagnosis.
Health and education authorities have determined that there was no contact within the school and are proceeding with in-person classes at the school as scheduled.
Meanwhile, as of midnight on the same day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Daegu, including the Sangwon Middle School student, was 6,886. The number of recovered patients was 6,717 (96.4%), and the number of deaths was 184.
