[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 5th regarding the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation that "the electronic entry log system for high-risk facilities such as clubs will be pilot-applied and then made mandatory starting from the 10th."
Prime Minister Chung made this announcement while presiding over the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting on COVID-19 held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day.
He said, "I understand there are concerns about privacy infringement leading to reluctance in use, system errors, and inconvenience for the elderly," adding, "The Ministry of Health and Welfare should promptly address the issues identified during the pilot application and thoroughly explain the matters that worry the public to ensure smooth full-scale implementation."
Prime Minister Chung pointed out, "Today marks one month since the implementation of social distancing in daily life," and noted, "The cluster infections that have occurred consecutively over the past month in clubs, logistics centers, and small religious gatherings in the metropolitan area show that establishing social distancing in daily life is by no means easy."
He continued, "Complacency in the metropolitan area is the greatest risk factor," explaining, "Given the characteristics of densely populated and highly mobile areas, if cluster infections occur simultaneously and repeatedly, the daily life we have struggled to maintain could collapse again at any time."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "Special attention is needed as infections among the elderly, who are vulnerable to COVID-19, are increasing," and added, "The more the infection spreads, the heavier the burden of regulations restricting daily life will become."
Prime Minister Chung stressed, "We must remember that the best vaccine to protect our daily lives until COVID-19 is eradicated is social distancing."
