Emart Traders Releases 20 Million Disposable Masks... 320 Won Each

One Box Per Person Limit

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Emart's Traders has secured 20 million disposable masks and will sell them at affordable prices.

Traders announced on the 5th that starting from the 6th, they will sell a box of 50 disposable masks (large and small sizes) for 15,980 KRW. These are three-layer disposable masks with an MB filter, priced at 320 KRW per mask.

The sales will take place at 18 Traders stores nationwide, with 700 to 1,000 boxes supplied daily to each store. Purchases are limited to one box (50 masks) per person.

Traders planned this disposable mask sale to reduce the financial burden on consumers for mask purchases. Additionally, as the weather gets warmer, they expect a significant increase in customers seeking disposable masks over KF masks, which are harder to breathe through, and have been searching for suppliers since February.

After these efforts, they signed a one-time purchase contract for 20 million disposable masks with a mask manufacturing factory and planned this sale. Traders expects all of this stock to be sold within June.

Previously, Traders sold about 10,000 disposable masks per store per day. Even then, supply was unstable, resulting in sales only 2 to 3 times a week on average. Due to supply shortages compared to demand, customers lined up every morning at Traders stores to get numbered tickets to buy masks.

Recently, the small-sized disposable masks, which have seen a surge in demand, are also sold at the same price. Traders plans to sell the small-sized disposable masks, which have seen increased demand due to kindergarten and elementary school openings, at the same price as the large size to reduce consumers' mask purchase costs.
