Jeonju City Can No Longer Tolerate Illegal Parking!... 'Bicycle Patrol Squad Has Arrived'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Gominhyeong] Jeonju City will use bicycles to crack down on illegal parking.

According to the city on the 4th, it plans to operate a bicycle traffic patrol unit until May next year to eradicate illegal parking in congested traffic areas.

The patrol will mainly target vulnerable areas such as Seobu New Town, the area around Pungnammun, Jeonju Hanok Village, the one-way street section of Gaksa-gil, the commercial district near the old gate of Jeonbuk National University, and the Innovation City, focusing on illegal parking vehicles during specific times.

The bicycle traffic patrol unit consists of 10 dedicated personnel. They will operate from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., which are vulnerable times for traffic enforcement, such as weekends and weekday rush hours.

This year, the patrol will expand its scope to improve chronic safety neglect practices on sidewalks, crosswalks, bicycle lanes, bus stops, areas around fire facilities, and school zones.

Additionally, the city will guide and crack down on illegal parking behaviors such as covering license plates on main roads, parking too close to the vehicle in front, and parking on sidewalks, to complement the limitations of mobile vehicles and fixed CCTV.

Last year, the city operated the bicycle traffic patrol unit and cracked down on a total of 8,239 cases of illegal parking.

Kim Tae-hoon, head of the Traffic Safety Division of Jeonju City, said, “Enforcement of illegal parking using vehicles is mainly focused on arterial roads where cars can pass, so there are efficiency issues.”
