Gwangju City Supports Living Expense Subsidies for Residents in Development Restriction Zones Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 4th that it will provide living expense subsidies to low-income vulnerable groups residing in the development-restricted zones who are experiencing various inconveniences due to the designation of these zones.

The eligible recipients are households residing in the development-restricted zones at the time of designation, whose monthly average income per household in urban areas for the previous year (2018), as announced by the Statistics Korea, is below 4,749,664 KRW.

The subsidy will be funded by the conservation charge collected according to the activity permits within the development-restricted zones and will be paid once a year up to 600,000 KRW per household for expenses used in 2019, including tuition fees, electricity bills, health insurance premiums, information and communication fees, and medical expenses.

However, households where the head (or members) of the household have been criminally punished three or more times in the past three years for violating the Development-Restricted Zones Act, or have received correction orders and failed to comply, will be excluded from the support.

Gwangju City plans to announce and accept applications for two months starting this month, conduct eligibility checks and determine qualification in July and August, and proceed with the submission of supporting documents and payment of subsidies from August to December.
