[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Amid sporadic outbreaks of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Seoul metropolitan area, the government anticipates that such transmission is likely to continue until a vaccine is developed.
Yoon Tae-ho, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' quarantine team, stated at a regular briefing held at the Government Complex Sejong on the 4th, "Infections that began at Itaewon clubs, Bucheon logistics centers, and metropolitan pioneering churches continue to spread, and cases with unknown infection routes are increasing."
Health authorities raised their voices, emphasizing that since 'silent transmission' by asymptomatic carriers is occurring sporadically, vigilance cannot be relaxed until a vaccine is developed.
Yoon said, "If we become even slightly complacent, the COVID-19 virus will cause another cluster infection," and stressed, "Residents of the metropolitan area must remain alert and break the chain of sequential infections to successfully block the spread through epidemiological investigations."
