[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sunhee] Kim Yo-jong, First Deputy Director of the Workers' Party of Korea, expressed displeasure over the distribution of leaflets to North Korea by defectors and mentioned the possibility of "terminating the inter-Korean military agreement" on the 4th. Meanwhile, the Blue House stated that the existing inter-Korean agreements must be upheld.
A Blue House official told reporters on the day, "There is no change in the position that the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration and the September 19 inter-Korean military agreement must be upheld."
Earlier, Deputy Director Kim said through Rodong Sinmun, the Workers' Party's official newspaper, "If the South Korean authorities fail to take appropriate measures, they must be fully prepared for the complete dismantling of the Kaesong Industrial Complex following the suspension of Mount Kumgang tourism, the closure of the inter-Korean joint liaison office, or the termination of the meaningless inter-Korean military agreement."
Regarding whether the Blue House held a National Security Council (NSC) meeting in relation to this statement, the official said, "The regular NSC meeting is held every Thursday," and without mentioning the exact time, added, "I can only say that it is being held today."
Meanwhile, at a regular briefing in the morning, Unification Ministry spokesperson Yeo Sang-gi stated about the leaflet distribution to North Korea, "Acts that threaten the lives and property of residents in border areas must be stopped," and announced that preparations are underway to revise laws to enforce this.
