[Special Stock] KenkoAerospace Expected to Execute National Project on Vertical Takeoff and Landing Drone Platform... Anticipation for Drone Taxi Market Leadership

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Kenko Aerospace is showing strong performance. The news that the government is actively fostering the drone industry appears to have influenced the stock price.

As of 11 a.m. on the 4th, Kenko Aerospace is trading at 11,000 KRW, up 16.4% from the previous day.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the "Korean Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM) Roadmap" on the same day. The ministry plans to conduct UAM flight demonstrations in 2024 and start UAM pilot projects in 2025. The goal is to begin full-scale commercialization from 2030.

During congested commuting hours, it takes 73 minutes (34 km by road) to travel from Gimpo Airport to Jamsil using existing transportation. In contrast, using UAM, it takes only 12 minutes (27 km in a straight line). This reduces travel time by approximately 84%. The UAM market is expected to reach about 730 trillion KRW (13 trillion KRW domestically) by 2040.

Kenko Aerospace relocated its corporate research institute for drone business to the Cheongna district in Incheon, a direct hub for drone research and development. The company has accumulated technological capabilities through past projects such as complete aircraft production, development of medium-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle (MUAV) systems, and hybrid smart drone projects. Currently, it is preparing for commercialization by participating in the mass production of airframes for domestic defense and public-use drone development projects. It also participated in government projects to develop lifestyle-oriented hybrid smart drones. Research has been conducted on vertical takeoff and landing drone platforms, proprietary flight control systems, and long-distance flight vertical takeoff and landing technologies.

Kenko Aerospace possesses all capabilities from aircraft materials to processing, parts, assembly, and maintenance. In 2017, Kenko Aerospace was selected as an 'Elite Vendor' by Lockheed Martin, an honor given to only 2% of its partners. It also received the 'Performance Excellence Award' from Boeing, awarded to 400 outstanding partners, for six consecutive years until 2018. The company is recognized for the quality of its products and competitiveness in delivery schedules.
