High School 2nd and 3rd Year Students Eligible for Free Education
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education announced on the 4th that it refunded 4.27257 billion KRW of prepaid tuition fees to the parents of 17,572 first-year high school students to alleviate the financial burden of education expenses for parents facing economic difficulties due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
In addition, as part of the infectious disease victim household tuition support project, the second quarter tuition fees and school operation support fees for first-year high school students are waived. For high schools in Gyeongbuk Province, free education has been provided for third-year students since the second semester of last year and for students promoted to the second year starting this year.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, "By promptly refunding the tuition fees (first quarter tuition and school operation support fees) paid by parents of first-year high school students, we expect this to serve as a catalyst to revitalize the local economy, which has been stagnant."
