Ssangyong Motor Signs Supply Contract for Next-Generation Military Command Vehicle 'Rexton Sports'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Ssangyong Motor announced on the 4th that it has signed a supply contract for the Rexton Sports, newly selected as the command vehicle for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, with significantly upgraded operational command capabilities, to be deployed in actual operations starting from July.

The Rexton Sports, to be supplied as command vehicles for units at various levels, was selected after passing the field suitability evaluation with the highest rating, considering various operational environments such as basic driving performance, safety, communication operation, and its role as a mobile command post.

The Rexton Sports, equipped with an ultra-high-strength quad frame, combines the e-XDi220 diesel engine and Ssangyong's unique 4WD system 4Tronic, providing advanced off-road driving capabilities to perform various support activities required in the field, including mountainous terrain.

A Ssangyong Motor official explained that the newly upgraded Rexton Sports has increased seating capacity from 5 to 6 passengers while enhancing interior mobility, improved fording capability, and significantly strengthened field operational capabilities such as improved startability in cold fuel environments.

Climbing ability and obstacle overcoming capability have also been enhanced, and the expanded interior space greatly improves the convenience of boarding and alighting for troops equipped with helmets and gear.

Ssangyong Motor plans to deliver about 600 units to various units by the end of this year and to continuously expand supply quantities according to replacement plans until 2023.
