[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The National Tax Service (NTS) announced that Commissioner Kim Hyun-joon hosted an event on the 4th to thank 30 recipients of the '2020 Beautiful Taxpayer Award' for their faithful tax payment and social contribution activities.
The Beautiful Taxpayer Award is given to taxpayers who not only pay taxes faithfully but also practice social contribution through donations and volunteer work, or who have greatly contributed to the local economy by creating jobs and realizing public interest values.
Since its first implementation on July 22, 2011, the NTS expanded the award this year, marking its 10th anniversary, to include wage earners practicing neighborly love (7 people). This year, the NTS actively sought taxpayers who continuously practiced sharing and volunteering for vulnerable groups in our society such as the elderly and ex-convicts, or who worked for the development of the social community by hiring local residents and people with disabilities.
Recipients of the Beautiful Taxpayer Award receive preferential tax benefits such as tax audit deferrals and exemption from tax guarantees, as well as social benefits including priority access at airports, free use of public parking lots and national park parking lots.
Additionally, they are granted access to the exclusive business center for exemplary taxpayers at Incheon Airport and receive railway fare discounts (10% to 30%) on Korail and SRT trains.
An NTS official stated, "Photos and achievements of the awardees have been posted at the headquarters and seven regional offices' exhibition halls," adding, "We will continue to actively discover beautiful taxpayers, the hidden heroes of our society, and strive to spread a voluntary culture of faithful tax payment throughout society."
