The 122nd Recipient of the 'LG Uisin Award' Is Choi Cheol-ho (51)

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Welfare Foundation announced on the 4th that it will award the 'LG Hero Award' to Choi Cheol-ho (51), who rescued a driver trapped in a vehicle engulfed in flames due to an accident in Gangseo-gu, Busan, on the 23rd of last month.

At around 10 p.m. that day, while driving on the road at the entrance of the Seobusan Distribution Complex in Daejeo-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan, Choi witnessed a vehicle overturned after crashing into the central divider. He stopped his car on the shoulder and immediately ran to the accident vehicle.

Choi explained the situation at the time, saying, "The door of the accident vehicle was not open, and I thought there might be someone inside, so I could not just pass by."

The inside of the overturned vehicle was quickly filled with smoke as the flames spread rapidly. Hearing the driver's cries for help, Choi did not hesitate to open the door and rescued the driver trapped inside the car.

The accident vehicle was completely burned, but Choi's quick judgment and action saved the driver.

An official from LG Welfare Foundation said, "Although it was a dangerous situation where the vehicle could have exploded, we want society to collectively encourage the courageous action taken to save a life."

The LG Hero Award was established in 2015 reflecting the late Chairman Koo Bon-moo's will that "the company repays its social responsibility to heroes who sacrificed themselves for the nation and social justice." Since CEO Koo Kwang-mo's inauguration, the scope of recipients has been expanded to include citizens who have performed exemplary good deeds and volunteer work in our society. So far, 122 people have received the LG Hero Award.
