Recommended workplaces with good labor environments for youth... Survey on meeting requirements for Youth Part-time Job Friendly Workplace certification until the 30th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is starting the Gangdong-gu Youth Part-time Job Friendly Workplace Certification Project this year to protect the labor rights of youth.
The Youth Part-time Job Friendly Workplace Certification is a project that selects workplaces with good labor environments for youth. Workplaces meeting five criteria?▲writing labor contracts ▲paying at least minimum wage ▲providing weekly holiday pay for working more than 15 hours per week ▲guaranteeing respectful treatment ▲recommendation by the working party?are selected through on-site inspections by Gangdong-gu Alba Guardians.
Prior to this, the district revised the ordinance related to youth labor rights in March this year to establish a legal basis for promoting the certification project and is conducting a survey until the 30th of this month to investigate youth labor environments and certify youth part-time job friendly workplaces.
The survey consists of 16 items including basic information about part-time jobs such as motivation and frequency, and whether the workplace meets the certification requirements for youth part-time job friendly workplaces.
Anyone in their teens or twenties who has had part-time job experience at a Gangdong-gu workplace in the past year (from June 1, 2019, to the present) can participate in the survey; however, directly operated stores by headquarters and youth employment prohibited businesses such as PC rooms, karaoke rooms, and pubs are excluded.
The survey is conducted online to enhance accessibility for the younger generation familiar with online platforms. For more details, please refer to the Gangdong-gu Labor Rights Center website.
The district plans to deliver certification plaques, post promotional banners, create a neighborhood friendly store map, and provide support such as volume-based waste bags and public utility fees to workplaces selected as youth part-time job friendly workplaces, encouraging them to maintain labor-friendly environments for youth and serve as good examples for other workplaces.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “Many youth experience violations of labor rights at workplaces simply because of their young age. We will strive to improve youth labor rights through the Youth Part-time Job Friendly Workplace Certification Project.”
