In June, Honoring Patriots and Veterans Month: Postcards and Masks Delivered to Over 5,200 National Veterans Honoring Their Noble Sacrifice and Dedication... In May, for Family Month, Thank You and Congratulations Messages and Masks Delivered to Grateful Seocho-gu Children, Seniors, Teachers, and Youth
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jo Eun-hee) delivered mask kits to support residents who are striving to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). In particular, the district prepared different items and hopeful messages according to the recipients on commemorative days such as Parents' Day, Teachers' Day, and Coming-of-Age Day.
First, the district provided disposable mask kits for children attending daycare centers who find it difficult to wear masks. The kit, consisting of KF masks, dental masks, hand sanitizers, and more, featured a message on the front expressing a mother's concern for the children's health.
The thoughtful gift from the district touched the hearts of residents deeply. On local mom cafes and the district office website, messages of gratitude have been pouring in daily, such as "In this hot weather, the support of disposable dental masks, which is as hard to get as stars in the sky, is a hundred times touching," "It's been a hundred years since my heart trembled at a gift like rain," and "I feel the warm consideration for the residents."
On May 8, Parents' Day, the district delivered a filial love package consisting of soap flowers and samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup). Following the distribution of masks to 58,000 elderly residents aged 65 and over in April, the district also delivered cool kits containing cool pillows, cool scarves, arm sleeves, and cool underwear to 1,109 vulnerable elderly living alone.
The dental masks delivered to the elderly were 15,000 pieces sponsored by KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), expressing gratitude to the Seocho elderly who have endured well through COVID-19.
Additionally, on May 15, Teachers' Day, cards with messages of respect and gratitude along with mask kits were delivered to a total of 5,980 staff members of kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as about 2,200 daycare center childcare staff.
One teacher expressed gratitude on SNS, saying, "A gift that suddenly flew in, tears welled up, and I was moved again by the thoughtfulness that even thinks of us," and a principal of an elementary school in Banpo sent a thank-you message, saying, "It's a Teachers' Day without children, and in an atmosphere where we can't even celebrate, the district office is like Santa Claus."
For high school seniors in the district exhausted by school reopening and the postponement of the college entrance exam, a support package consisting of dental masks, nutritional supplements, and encouraging messages will be delivered.
For about 4,600 youths who turned 19 and became adults, congratulatory cards and masks encouraging their challenges toward a new world were delivered. The district celebrated the dazzlingly shining youth of twenty-year-olds and supported their challenges toward a new world after COVID-19. The response was enthusiastic. On internet communities, there were warm reviews expressing heartfelt gratitude for the district’s delicate gift that arrived faster than anyone else.
The district’s care and support also reached frontline workers such as elderly care life support workers. A resident of Bangbae-dong, whose father works as a temporary employee at the district office, left a thank-you message via KakaoTalk and cheered on the mayor and staff.
Going forward, in June, the month of national veterans and patriots, the district plans to deliver mask kits with gratitude to about 5,200 national veterans in the area, including war veterans, wounded soldiers, and democracy activists. Seocho-gu Mayor Jo Eun-hee said, "The driving force to overcome COVID-19 is our residents. We have conveyed a message of thanks to the grateful Seocho residents who have endured this crisis together. We will continue to strive for warm administration filled with sincerity."
