[Golf Topic] Men's Golf World Rankings "Recalculated Starting Next Week" The men's golf world rankings will be recalculated starting next week. The current number one is Rory McIlroy.

[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The men's golf world rankings will be recalculated.

On the 4th (Korean time), the US ESPN reported, "With the resumption of the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour next week, the world rankings will also be reactivated." The men's golf world rankings have been frozen since March due to the global suspension of major tours caused by the spread of COVID-19. If the rankings were continuously updated without tournaments being held, the ranking differentiation would disappear.

The PGA Tour will resume the season after three months with the Charles Schwab Challenge on the 11th, and the Korn Ferry Tour will also open the Korn Ferry Challenge on the same day. An Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) official stated, "After the Charles Schwab Challenge and Korn Ferry Challenge conclude, world ranking points will be awarded to players based on the results, and a new ranking will be announced." Currently, Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) is ranked 1st, Jon Rahm (Spain) 2nd, and Tiger Woods (USA) 11th.

The OWGR awards points differentially every Monday after the conclusion of professional golf tours worldwide. The average is calculated by dividing the points earned over two years by the number of tournaments played (minimum 40, maximum 52). This rating is the basis for determining the world rankings. Points vary depending on the tour, tournament scale, and the status of participating players. In Europe, the world rankings are used to select the Ryder Cup team.
