[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The population of Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, is expected to increase to 1.08 million by 2035.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 4th that it has finally approved the "2035 Seongnam Urban Master Plan Establishment (Draft)," a legally highest-level plan that presents the future vision of Seongnam City and long-term urban development directions, serving as a roadmap for spatial planning and policy formulation.
According to the main contents, the target population for 2035 was set at 1,082,000, considering the influx of population through public housing projects and others. This represents an increase of about 130,000 compared to Seongnam City's population of 959,000 as of the end of April this year.
Additionally, reflecting changes in urban conditions such as the planned GTX-A line and the status of Pangyo Techno Valley, and aiming for balanced development between the main urban area and new towns, the urban spatial structure was reorganized from three downtowns (Sujeong·Jungwon, Bundang, Pangyo) to one downtown (Seongnam downtown) and two regional centers (North, South).
The main transportation plan is designed to establish a transportation network system considering surrounding development plans, higher-level plans such as the 3rd National Railroad Network Construction Plan (including the Metropolitan Area Express Railway), Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan (Line 8 extension), and adjacent cities and counties.
Along with this, major development projects in Seongnam City such as public housing projects, circular relocation complexes, and expansion of living SOC (Social Overhead Capital) are reflected to enable systematic promotion of local pending projects.
The approved 2035 Seongnam Urban Master Plan will be publicly disclosed through Seongnam City's website within this month.
