Dongjak-gu Establishes Smart Safety Management System for Hazardous Facilities

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will officially operate the Smart Safety Management System (hereinafter referred to as the system) from this month to enable rapid and systematic management of hazardous facilities in the area.

The district invested 110 million KRW to strengthen safety inspection functions by utilizing smart devices based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The project for system construction began in November 2019, and was completed on the 31st of last month.

The system management targets 650 hazardous facilities in the area, including those related to the National Safety Diagnosis, Category 3 facilities, private hazardous facilities such as stone retaining walls and embankments, and other construction sites.

As the first step in system construction, the district office, facility managers, and construction supervision companies generate and attach management QR codes to hazardous facilities within the district.

In the second step, using smart devices, information such as ▲construction site status and inspection ▲progress reports ▲hazardous facility management is entered into the safety management system.

The entered information is built into a database, allowing the district and supervision companies to monitor all information from the current status to management history of hazardous facilities anytime and anywhere, thereby preventing safety accidents in advance.

In particular, the district allows owners of hazardous facilities who wish to apply to directly check the management information of their facilities in real time through the safety management system application, and to immediately report any abnormal signs detected.

Additionally, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the community, the district plans to introduce and operate the ‘COVID-19 QR Code Smart Inspection’ within the Smart Safety Management System from next month, becoming the first local government nationwide to do so.

Until now, there has been inconvenience in managing quarantine inspection results of multi-use facilities such as entertainment venues, performance halls, and cultural and sports facilities through manual ledgers by department.

Accordingly, the district attaches QR codes to multi-use facilities and inputs and manages quarantine inspection details to establish systematic and integrated quarantine management.

Through the system, inspection histories for each facility, including ▲inspection date and time, department and person in charge ▲temperature checks ▲availability of hand sanitizer ▲fever and respiratory symptoms ▲mask-wearing status can be viewed and managed at a glance.

Safety and Disaster Officer Okhyun Yoo stated, “We will continue to do our best to protect residents’ lives and property through proactive responses to accident risks by rapid and systematic safety management.”
