360-person Biographical Book Collection, Direct School Visits for Lectures and Career Counseling... Meet Online with 'Live Inmuldoseo'... "Leading Songpa-style Talent Development"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is building a talent pool of over 360 human books to actively promote the ‘Songpa Human Library.’
The Songpa Human Library is a new concept library where the experiences and wisdom of local notable figures, recruited as ‘human books,’ can be shared.
It utilizes Songpa-gu’s own education support platform, ‘Songpa SSEM (Songpa Smart Education Model),’ and is a key pledge project of Mayor Park Seong-su during the 7th local government administration.
After opening the first human library at Songpa Geulmaru Library in October last year, the district focused on composing a human book collection with rich experience and expertise. As a result, it recruited over 360 individuals including prominent social figures, youth, career-transitioning women, and retired professionals.
Currently, the human book talent pool includes local participants such as poet Na Tae-ju, lawyer Yang So-young, architect Seo Hyun who designed Seoul Book Bogo, former Woosuk University president Ra Jong-il, former national track and field athlete Lim Chun-ae, disaster expert Professor Kim Geun-young, Hanbok designer Lee Hyo-jae, as well as parent education activists, village instructors, and learning coaching groups.
Recently, the district connected human books with 51 key facilities including daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary, middle and high schools, youth centers, libraries, community centers, and senior centers. Through the upcoming ‘Visiting Human Library’ project, human books will directly visit these facilities to provide lectures, career counseling, learning coaching, cultural and artistic experiences, and psychological counseling. This is expected to expand learning opportunities especially for youth and students contemplating their career paths and aptitudes.
The Songpa Human Library can also be accessed online through video content called ‘Live Human Books.’ Each month, a ‘Human Book of the Month’ is selected, and lectures and interviews are produced as video content and provided on the Songpa TV website and YouTube channel.
Recently, lawyer Yang So-young and architect Seo Hyun were selected as human books for May and June respectively, sharing their expertise and experiences through videos.
The district is also working on building a ‘Cyber Human Library.’ It plans to operate an online platform where users can search for and browse human books they want to meet, just like finding a book to read. This will enable applications for the ‘Visiting Songpa Human Library’ lectures and viewing of ‘Live Human Books’ video content.
Songpa-gu plans to annually expand the discovery and recruitment of human books and promote various linked programs and events utilizing them.
Mayor Park said, “We have gathered excellent human resources to build new educational content called ‘human books.’ We will accelerate the promotion of projects related to the Songpa Human Library to nurture ‘Songpa-type talents’ born and raised in Songpa and to enrich the lives of our residents.”
