The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 3rd that they have urgently arrested a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges including rape and are currently investigating him.
Mr. A is suspected of breaking into a house in Jeonnam this spring, sexually assaulting the victim, and fleeing the scene.
The police captured through nearby CCTV footage that Mr. A was wandering near the crime scene during the late-night hours when the incident occurred, and based on the resemblance between Mr. A and the descriptions provided by the victims, the investigation is ongoing.
Additionally, the police are verifying the possibility that Mr. A may be connected to past sexual violence cases that occurred in Jeonnam.
The police are also comparing DNA information found at the crime scene with Mr. A’s DNA as part of the investigation.
The police plan to review applying for an arrest warrant by investigating Mr. A’s whereabouts and any additional crimes.
