[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On the 3rd, two 1000TEU-class container ships of Namseong Shipping were simultaneously christened at Daesun Shipbuilding's Busan Yeongdo Shipyard, a medium-sized shipyard.
Namseong Shipping Chairman Kim Young-chi and CEO Kim Yong-gyu were present, along with key figures including Daesun Shipbuilding CEO Lee Soo-geun, Korea Eximbank Shipping Finance Team Leader Kim Hyung-jun, and Korea Maritime Promotion Corporation Head Kim Jong-hyun, who listened to the first ship horn and enjoyed the colorful confetti salute.
The main vessels named that day were two 1000TEU-class container ships capable of carrying 1,000 20-foot containers, ordered by Namseong Shipping between 2018 and 2019, named STAR EXPLORE and STAR FRONTIER.
Daesun Shipbuilding installed scrubbers, devices that reduce sulfur oxides, on the container ships to comply with the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s strengthened environmental regulations. To protect the marine ecosystem, ballast water treatment systems were also installed onboard, and eco-friendly coatings were applied to improve fuel efficiency and economic performance, according to the company.
Since February, Daesun Shipbuilding has formed an industry-academic cooperation group with Magellan Marine Solutions, Namseong Shipping's ship management and technology company, and Pusan National University to complete the development of an energy-saving 1000TEU feeder container ship that improves daily fuel consumption by more than 12%.
On the 2nd, Daesun Shipbuilding signed an agreement with Lloyd's Register for the Approval in Principle (AIP) certification to verify the suitability of the basic ship design for a 2500TEU feeder container ship powered by LNG-diesel dual fuel propulsion.
