[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 3rd, "The National Safety Inspection will be conducted for one month starting from June 10, a week from now."
On the same day, Prime Minister Chung presided over the Government Seoul Office's National Agenda Inspection and Coordination Meeting and said, "This year, the inspection will be conducted concurrently with the response to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), so the duration is half and the target is one-third compared to last year."
However, Prime Minister Chung emphasized, "We plan to conduct more intensive inspections on areas where accidents frequently occur, such as child protection zones and construction sites."
He also urged, "Field personnel should carefully check and supplement each facility with the attitude of protecting the lives of their own family members."
Prime Minister Chung added, "There are forecasts that heatwaves and heavy rains will be more frequent this year, so it could be a difficult summer unlike any we have experienced before," and said, "At times like these, the government must be more vigilant and thoroughly prepared. The key is prevention."
He continued, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety and related ministries should meticulously inspect facilities vulnerable to heavy rain and strong winds and carry out timely repairs and reinforcements," and instructed, "Especially in areas like Gangwon-do where wildfires occurred, please promptly complete measures to prevent landslides."
Furthermore, he said, "As the water temperature rises, the possibility of damage caused by green and red tides also increases, so close cooperation between central and local governments is necessary," and added, "The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries should specifically inform local governments of response plans for each situation and check the implementation status daily."
Regarding regulatory innovation plans to resolve difficulties in new industry sites, Prime Minister Chung explained, "We have resolved about 240 regulations that hindered the growth of new industries," and said, "Today, we will report on regulatory innovation plans focusing on the hydrogen economy, drones, and bio-health."
He added, "With this measure, the hybrid construction and installation of commercial facilities for hydrogen charging stations will be possible, promoting the spread of hydrogen economy infrastructure," and expressed expectations that "simplifying drone certification procedures will accelerate the launch of new products."
Regarding improvement plans for the management system of imported wild animals, he said, "The related ministries have jointly prepared measures to significantly strengthen management of imported wild animals throughout the entire process of import, customs clearance, and distribution," and urged, "The success of these measures depends on implementation. The Ministry of Environment and related ministries should promptly establish legal grounds and immediately implement matters possible through administrative actions."
