[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Metropolitan City Urban Railway Construction Headquarters announced on the 3rd that it has finalized and officially announced the names of two subway stations set to open soon.
First, the terminal station name for the Songdo extension line of Incheon Subway Line 1, scheduled to open at the end of this year, has been decided as 'Songdo Dalbit Festival Park Station.' Additionally, the new station name for the Seoknam extension line of Seoul Subway Line 7, opening in the first half of next year, has been confirmed as 'Sangok Station.'
The Urban Railway Construction Headquarters explained that through collecting opinions from citizens and related organizations and deliberations by the station naming committee, they selected names with clear regional relevance and those most commonly used.
Han Kiyong, head of the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters, said, "We made efforts to select names that are easy for anyone to find and recognize by considering citizen preference surveys, local characteristics, and symbolism. Based on the current progress, Songdo Dalbit Festival Park Station is expected to open in the second half of this year, and Sangok Station is scheduled to open in the first half of next year."
The city has been promoting the second phase of the Songdo extension line project, a 0.82 km section connecting Gukje Business District Station to Songdo Dalbit Festival Park Station on Incheon Subway Line 1, since 2009 with a total project cost of 178.2 billion KRW. Previously, the first phase project covering six stations over 6.54 km from Dongmak Station to Songdo Gukje Business District Station opened in 2009.
Also, the Seoknam extension line covers a 4.165 km section from Bupyeong-gu Office Station to Sangok Station and Seoknam Station. The existing terminal, Bupyeong-gu Office Station, is extended by two stations to establish a subway station in Sangok-dong, and through transfer at Incheon Line 2 Seoknam Station, it connects to Seoul Line 7. The total project cost amounted to 374.3 billion KRW, including 223.9 billion KRW in national funding.
