"Busan Museum Partially Closed Due to Exhibition Room Renovation"

Dongnaegwan 'Seonsasil' Renovates Old Facilities... Reopens in Early August

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The prehistoric exhibition room at the Dongnae Hall of the Busan Museum will be closed until August 3 due to renovation work on its aging facilities.

The Busan Museum is composed of Dongnae Hall (Exhibition Hall 1), which introduces the history and culture of the Busan area from the Paleolithic era to the Goryeo Dynasty, and Busan Hall (Exhibition Hall 2), which highlights the Joseon Dynasty to the modern era.

The name Dongnae Hall has been used since 2014, symbolically representing the exhibition layout of Hall 1, derived from "Dongnae," a name used since 757 AD (the 16th year of King Gyeongdeok of Silla) during the Three Kingdoms period.

Dongnae Hall is largely divided into the Prehistoric Room (Paleolithic era to the Samhan period) and the Three Kingdoms Room (Three Kingdoms period to the Goryeo Dynasty). During the ongoing renovation of the aging facilities, the Three Kingdoms Room, covering the Three Kingdoms to Goryeo periods, remains open to visitors.

The museum expects that this renovation will improve the temperature and humidity conditions of the exhibition rooms to ensure the safe preservation of artifacts and will install temporary walls to guide visitor flow, thereby enhancing visitor satisfaction. Sequential improvements to the viewing environment, including the Three Kingdoms Room, will be made to resolve aging facilities and visitor inconveniences.

A museum official stated, "Once the renovation is complete, a special exhibition highlighting Busan's prehistoric and protohistoric eras will be held," adding, "We will continue to do our best to safely manage the exhibited artifacts and create a comfortable viewing environment for visitors."

Meanwhile, as part of COVID-19 prevention measures and social distancing practices, all exhibition visits at the Busan Museum are operated by advance reservation through the internet. Visitors can apply for exhibition viewing on the desired date and time via the Busan Museum website. Same-day reservations are not allowed, but in unavoidable cases, entry is possible through on-site registration.
