KT and Hyundai Heavy Industries Alliance AI One Team Joined by LG Electronics and Uplus
AI to Prevent Infectious Disease Spread, Linking Giga Genie and ThinQ AI Platforms
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] LG Electronics and LG Uplus have joined the AI One Team, which includes KT and Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. They will share and link data and technologies owned by individual companies to promote collaboration on AI products and services, addressing social issues such as infectious diseases.
On the 3rd, LG Electronics and LG Uplus announced that they joined the AI One Team, an industry-academia-research consortium consisting of KT, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hanyang University, and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). On the same day, KT, LG Electronics, and LG Uplus signed a business agreement at the Gwanghwamun Building to establish a "No. 1 AI Nation."
The AI One Team is an alliance formed by five companies and institutions?Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, Hanyang University, KAIST, ETRI, and others?to enhance AI capabilities. The AI One Team aims to
▲ Solve social problems based on AI capabilities ▲ Strengthen AI capabilities through sharing technologies and experiences ▲ Create business outcomes by improving AI competitiveness in products, services, and solutions ▲ Build an industry-academia-research AI talent development platform.
Through this agreement, KT's communication data and infectious disease prevention know-how will be used together with LG Uplus's communication and roaming data to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). A model combining LG Electronics' products and AI technology will also be attempted to prevent the spread and risks of infectious diseases. AI will be actively utilized to solve social issues such as environmental pollution and industrial safety.
In the product and service sectors, they will also cooperate to achieve AI business outcomes. They plan to explore ways to interconnect KT's AI platform 'Giga Genie' and LG Electronics' 'LG ThinQ.' The goal is to evolve smart home services by linking KT and LG Uplus's home Internet of Things (IoT) services with LG Electronics' home appliances. Additionally, the AI One Team will participate in industrial practical AI education and AI expert training to foster AI talent.
