[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Ourhome announced on the 3rd that it has signed a business agreement with IoT company Grip for the ‘supply and installation of fire prevention systems’ and will introduce an ‘automated fire prevention system’ in food service establishments nationwide.

The signing ceremony held on the 2nd at Ourhome’s headquarters in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was attended by about 10 executives and employees from both companies, including Jung Yeon-gyu, CEO of Grip, and Yang Jeong-ik, head of Ourhome’s Cook King Meal Division.

This agreement is part of Ourhome’s ‘Food Service Environment Improvement Project’ that has been underway since 2013, aiming to secure the safety of workers at food service sites from fire, a major risk factor, by introducing this system.

The automated fire prevention system works by the manager setting a reference temperature on the controller. An infrared temperature sensor installed above gas appliances detects overheating, alerts workers of the danger through a warning sound, and simultaneously shuts off the gas pipes automatically to prevent fire occurrence at the source. The system will first be installed on large cooking equipment such as fryers and stir-fry pots and will be gradually expanded.

Before the full-scale introduction of the automated fire prevention system, Ourhome conducted a test for about seven months at five food service establishments nationwide. Based on the test results, the system will be installed first at stores requesting installation and workplaces with high usage of large cooking equipment to block fire risk factors.

Additionally, within this year, IoT functions will be added to allow managers at each site to remotely control the system via smartphones, and continuous system upgrades are planned. Besides the fire prevention system, Ourhome and Grip have agreed to continue joint research in areas such as environmental improvement through temperature and humidity management and energy saving to enhance working conditions in kitchens.

Previously, since 2013, Ourhome has been conducting projects to improve food service environments, including streamlining work routes, improving dish return conveyors, establishing automatic leftover processing and automated serving systems. Going forward, it plans to evolve into a future-oriented advanced food service establishment by gradually expanding automated serving, zero pre-processing, and advancing cleaning systems.

An Ourhome official said, “We have been promoting various projects to improve food service environments since 2013,” and added, “We plan to continuously reinforce the system so that workers at business sites can work in a safer and more comfortable environment by preventing fire safety accidents.”
