Lee Jae-myung's Proposal for Additional Disaster Relief Fund Supported by Assemblyman Kim Doo-kwan "Fully Agreed"

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Doo-kwan, a member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea, supported Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's proposal for a second round of 'emergency disaster relief funds.'

On the evening of the 2nd, Kim posted on Facebook an article titled 'We must prepare for the 2nd and 3rd disaster relief funds,' stating, "Today, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung requested the central government to provide 200,000 won per person to all citizens as disaster relief funds," and added, "I agree with this proposal."

Furthermore, he added, "I hope the payment entity and method can be improved in a more progressive way."

He first suggested changing the payment method from a household basis to an individual basis to reduce side effects such as household splitting and to eliminate wasted time and administrative costs.

He also emphasized that there should be no distinction between income and property, that the entire amount received should be spent locally, and that donation methods should be minimized as much as possible. Additionally, he added that local governments should be the payment entities.

Earlier, Governor Lee Jae-myung stated in recent media interviews, "Even if COVID-19 ends, the economy is likely to remain poor for a considerable period, so it is natural to provide disaster basic income at least two or three more times," and argued, "To facilitate smooth economic circulation in the most efficient way, demand should be supplemented rather than supply, so providing additional disaster basic income will be much more helpful to our economy."

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province submitted a proposal to the government on the 29th of last month to provide emergency disaster relief funds of 200,000 won per person.
