Inducing Autonomous Development in Bukahyeon District Unit Planning Area... Revitalizing the Wedding Industry

[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] On the 2nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the Urban Redevelopment Committee meeting and announced on the 3rd that it had approved the amendment to the Bukahyeon District Unit Plan, where the wedding and beauty industries are concentrated.

The target area is around 231 Sinchon-ro, Seodaemun-gu, between Ewha Womans University Station and Ahyeon Station on Line 2. Since the district unit plan was decided in 2005, the time for redevelopment has come, and with the completion of surrounding redevelopment promotion projects such as Bukahyeon 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 districts, redevelopment is necessary due to environmental changes.

The main content of the amendment is to abolish excessive lot planning and activate autonomous joint development to secure flexibility. In addition, an 8-meter-wide road, which is currently impossible to open due to steep slopes, will be abolished to install social welfare facilities including senior centers. Seoul plans to review designating recommended uses related to wedding and beauty facilities not only along Sinchon-ro but also in the back streets.

A Seoul city official stated, "This amendment to the Bukahyeon District Unit Plan is expected to contribute to revitalizing the locally depressed wedding and beauty industries."
